Great contrast in weather experienced on Mulled Wine Walk : almost balmy conditions on contour around Blackstairs Mtn followed by snow , ice and thick cloud with extremely limited visibility on the upper slopes of the mountain but all expertly navigated by Jane and Turlough! After a 6 hour walk the group retired to Kiltealy for some mince pies!
An enthusiastic and skilled club group spent some hours relating map to mountain features last Sun in the Derrybawn area. A damp and cold start did not deter this bunch and all were very clear on their whereabouts at all times. The group were rewarded with stunning views as the afternoon brightened.
Next theory session will be Jan Wed18th 7.30 at Presentation Secondary followed by practical hill session Sun 22nd Jan.
Good luck with practice in the meantime!
Glenmalure Lodge was full for the Annual Christmas party which offered two walks, one on Saturday and a less challenging one on Sunday – although the “easy” walk group allege they did more climbing that the “moderate” walkers who covered a greater distance ! Both walks began from Wicklow Gap and ended back at base at the Lodge
Saturday’s walk was notable for the coldest conditions of the year so far but nothing compared to last year’s event (see photos in December 2010 post)
Sunday’s “easy ” walk (4 1/2 hours) took a circuit around Kelly’s Lough in milder but damper conditions
