That time of year again to dust off your climbing shoes and join us at Carrig rock (through graveyard on back road to Ferrycarrig).
Monday evenings from 6.30 onwards. No gear. . . . no worries! Club harnesses and helmets may be rented. Non-members are also welcome to ‘give it a go’. See you there!
Congrats to Liz Sinnott who was second lady in in this year’s Blackstairs Challenge organised by the Wayfarers’ Association in a very fast six and a half hours for 30.5 km (19 miles) along the Wexford Carlow border with a cumulative height gain of 1670m. Also among the very early finishers was Joe Berney and Anthony O’Connor was very pleased to have knocked another half hour out of his first-attempt timing! In all a total of 259 participated. A group of 20 members made the trek to Mayo to climb Mwelrea ; they were amply rewarded by a great day’s climbing with magnificent views of Clew Bay and the surrounding mountains of Galway and Mayo. In the capable hands of Joe, the group began from Doo Lough, aiming for the ramp in the northern corrie which took them onto the plateau with a drop before the final climb to the summit; the route back took the group along the ridge down to Delphi
