Comeraghs Sunday Nov 18th

Two walks : a “moderate” led by Joe and John and an “easy” led by Mícheál and John Mc. The easy went in to Coumtay with a sharp ascent to the plateau where lunch was enjoyed with fine views down to Coumfea and across to Knockanaffrin. Return was via Mahon Falls.

The moderate walk was captured on John’s “My Tracks” app which is available on Android sets and is free . Clicking on the link below will show the route in Google maps along with the statistics (click on the summary in the bottom left hand corner)

Lugnaquilla : Moderate Sunday 11 Nov

Taking a break at Hollow of Lugueer

A group of 20 in the capable hands of Anthony and Liz “conquered” Lug on Sunday last! A car split allowed for a linear climb from the car park at the top of Glenmalure, up past old mine workings, up the wooded valley of Fraughan Rock Brook and the first steep climb of the day past the waterfalls at Falls Brook; this was followed by a more gradual climb around a series of “mini-cliffs” until the final sharp ascent onto the plateau with a short walk then to the actual summit.

Descent was via Lough Mountain and with improved visibility spectacular views of Kelly’s Lough to the car park at Drumgoff Recreation Area.

Moderate Plus – Comeraghs

First details of today’s walks in the Comeraghs comes from John’s app on his android. The map below indicates the general route which was 14.5 k  with a height gain of 1100m taking nearly 7 hours in total!
