An inspiring conference was held recently in Tollymore in relation to all mountain training in Ireland. Photo shows Dawson Stelfox (1st Irishman to summit Everest), who gave a workshop on ‘keeping adventure in mountain training’. The workshop dealt with scrambling situations, when to use a rope, when not to use one, and how to use a rope most efficiently. Also in photo, Amanda from Wayfarers.
Weather conditions were perfect to test new compass skills of the navigation group on the slopes of Mt Leinster on Sun. Dec. 15th. Poor visibility and high winds created some challenges but the group ‘dug deep’ and coped really well. Let’s hope there’ll be lots of practice on the hills over the next few months.
24 members took part in the annual Xmas walk and party weekend , held this year in Glendalough. Saturday’s walk led by Ger and John took the group along St Kevin’s Way to Turlough Hill and back via Camaderry while Sunday’s walk, led by Ann & Sylvia, was a very pleasant circuit taking in Brocagh. In between walks, club members enjoyed a pleasant meal in The Glendalough Hotel. The happy group are pictured above having surmounted the final climb of the weekend
