Slievenamon Apr 2015

Both club walks climbed the slopes of the South Tipp mountain, famous in song, poetry and mythology, Slievenamon. Standing at 721m it is almost on a level with the highest in the Comeraghs or the Blackstairs. A windy, misty start soon gave way to a calmer, drier afternoon.
The ‘Moderate’ route went West out of the sleepy village of Kilcash through Kilcash Woods to a deep, shaded gorge created by the a tributary of the Anner River. The route continued on a wide loop which took in Carrickbrock then Carrickabrock (!) before taking on the summit. As Fionn MacCumhaill is long gone the females in the group decided against the race to the top! The return route followed the ‘tourist trail’ for a short time before dropping into another small stream valley close to Ballypatrick and then through Kilcash woods to the village.
