12 hardy souls were ‘not for turning’ just because of a ‘little’ rain last Fri evening for the night walk (minus the moon) in the Southern Blackstairs. The group started from the top end of Ballybawn Lane, made their way SW through the forest tracks and then North to top out on the ridge at Dho Bran 504m. The route followed the ridge line as far as ‘The Meeting’ before returning S along forest roads back to the cars. Conditions were tough early in the walk but eased and while views were non existent it was a relatively pleasant outing!
Club members who made the journey to Kilcash last Sunday were unfortunately not rewarded with views from the summit of Slievenamon. Whilst there was little or no rain both walk groups spent much of the day in low cloud.
The ‘Easy’ route followed some tracks through an enchanting woodland on the SE slopes of the mountain and took the very well defined ‘tourist track’ to return to Kilcash.
The ‘Moderate’ walk took a longer loop over Carrickbrock and Carrickabrock before reaching the summit.
By coincidence both groups met in the fog on the summit before following the same route back to the cars.
