Wednesday evening climbs have come to an end with another wonderful, warm, ‘Indian Summer’ sunset. Two new prospective members had a good introduction and are eagerly awaiting the 2015 season!
Some informal climbing will continue over the Winter for those are lucky enough to have time off work when the sun shines. Members should contact Paul or Colette.
The club intends to plan a return trip to Calpe in the Alicante region of Spain in Mar 2015. Anyone interested should keep in touch with climbing over the Winter months. Trips to Gravity (Inchicore) or Awesome Walls (Finglas) would be a really good idea.
Last day of training for the Rock climbing (and Walking) trip to Calpe, near Alicante, Spain.
Club members have been busy limbering up for the many rock climbing challenges that await in the Calpe area of Southern Spain. Twenty six club members will travel out mid March for up to 9 days of adventure.
Photos show recent climbing visits to The Burren (in drizzle and high winds!), to Awesome Walls (off M50, Finglas) and to Gravity climbing in Inchicore. Some members attended an excellent coaching session at Gravity.
Climbing sessions will take place for the next few Thurs evenings at Rocklands. A few sections were not affected very much by the recent fire. It is likely that Sep 19th may be the last session for the season as daylight is quickly fading in the evenings. If you haven’t given it a ‘go’ yet, come along and try it out!
Some club members attended the WWA climbing meet in Dalkey on Sat Aug 10th. The Women with Altitude initiative is a drive beginning from Sports Council research showing a serious drop off of Women in sport into adult years. The aim is to encourage more women in sport to develop their skills and develop greater independence and confidence.
Watch out, on the Mountaineering Ireland website, for further events during the year. The annual week end event has grown in success in the last few years and early booking will be essential for the event in May next year in Leenane. Check out the Women with Altitude Facebook page for up to the minute news.
Climbing sessions will take place at Carrig for the next few Thurs evenings. E mail with directions sent to all members. Nice, friendly crag! See you there!
